Jute Burlap, also known as gunny, jute, gunny, or kuda-kuda is an old, used but dying textile in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Caribbean. Hessian, gunny in the US and Canada, crocus in Jamaica and sisal burlap from India is a coarse woven cloth usually produced from animal skin or sisal fiber, which can be combined with plant fibers to produce rope, nets, and other agricultural products. Gunny is very similar in appearance and construction to jute. The key difference is that gunny has a much coarser texture. Jute, on the other hand, has a finer texture which is why it is often used for fine rope, net, and rope line.

There are several reasons jute has been used as a textile in some cultures. One reason jute is used in India is because it is considered to be one of the five most important components of curry. Curry is usually prepared by straining the curry leaves using water until the liquid drains out. In this process, the fibers of the jute are left behind. The resulting fine, silky fabric is the foundation of many kitchen utensils, kitchen dishes, and even kitchen clothes like bed sheets, tablecloths, and kitchen towels.

Jute is also used in construction and other industries. In electronics and appliances, it is used to create electrical and mechanical parts that can withstand high temperatures and corrosive chemicals. The fine fibers of jute are perfect for being combined with metals like aluminum, copper, and nickel. This enables the parts to withstand shocks and extreme temperature variations. Jute also makes up an integral part of the plastic industry due to its thermal insulation properties.

Jute is also widely used for creating sails for boats. It is strong enough to be used as roofing materials. In fact, boats made of jute sail on the sea even without the help of sails. Jute is used in manufacturing clothes such as burqas (traditional Islamic wear), bikinis, and even adult clothing. Jute is also used to make ghillie suits, nightclothes, pajamas, and camouflage.

Apart from its many applications, jute is also popularly used as a fire-proofing material. This is the reason why it is used as the lining of fire extinguishers. Jute is also good enough to prevent burning when exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time. These are just a few of the reasons why jute burlap fabric is popular amongst various industries and households.

Jute has excellent thermal qualities. It keeps the air hot and cold for a longer period of time. Apart from this, the jute fabric is also waterproof, which makes it a favorite choice for boat covers, as it prevents water from seeping inside. Since jute is used to produce so many things, it is not surprising that there are jute burlap fabric suppliers around the world.
